Not a government app. This is an independent study app made by Right Stack Ltd. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the UK Government, the Home Office or GOV.UK. Official information about the Life in the UK test and how to book it is at gov.uk/life-in-the-uk-test.
Who we are
Right Stack Ltd, based in London, makes the app and this website and is the data controller for the information described here. You can contact us about privacy at support@rightstack.co.uk.
The short version
- You don't need an account. We never ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your test progress, answers and settings are stored on your device only.
- The app uses a few service providers for analytics, crash reports, adverts and purchases. They receive device and usage data, described below.
- This website does not use cookies, analytics or adverts.
- We don't sell your data.
What the app collects and why

|---|---|---|
| App usage, such as screens viewed, tests started and finished, and settings chosen | Google Analytics for Firebase | Understanding how the app is used so we can improve it |

| Crash reports, error details and performance data, including device model and operating system | Sentry | Finding and fixing bugs |
| Purchase history and a random, anonymous app user ID | RevenueCat, Apple App Store, Google Play | Unlocking Premium and restoring it on your devices |
| Requests for translated content, including your IP address in standard server logs | Right Stack Ltd (hosted on Amazon Web Services) | Delivering translated questions and handbook pages to Premium users |
None of this data includes your name or contact details, and we don't link it to your identity.
This website
This website does not set cookies and does not use analytics or advertising. It is hosted on Amazon Web Services (Amazon CloudFront), which processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the service. The practice questions on this site run in your browser; your answers are not sent to us.
Adverts and your choices
The free version of the app shows adverts from Google AdMob. In the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before personalised adverts are shown. If you don't consent, Google may show limited adverts that don't use personal data for personalisation, or no adverts. On iPhone and iPad the app asks for permission before your advertising identifier can be used for tracking, and you can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings. Buying Premium removes adverts.
You can withdraw or change your advertising consent at any time. To be asked again, clear the app's data or reinstall the app (this also clears your progress), or email us and we will help.

Purchases
Premium is a one-time purchase processed by Apple or Google. We never receive your card or payment details. We receive a record of the purchase so that Premium can be unlocked and restored.
Legal bases
Under UK and EU data protection law we rely on your consent for personalised adverts and tracking, on our legitimate interests for analytics, crash reporting, hosting this website and keeping the service secure, and on performing our contract with you to provide and restore purchases.
Sharing and international transfers
We share data only with the service providers listed above, who process it on our behalf or as independent controllers under their own privacy policies. Some of them process data outside the UK; where they do, they rely on safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or standard contractual clauses. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep data
Data stored on your device stays there until you clear your progress in the app's settings or uninstall the app. Analytics data, crash reports and server logs are kept only for as long as they are useful for improving and securing the app, within each provider's retention settings, and are then deleted automatically. Purchase records are kept for as long as they are needed to provide Premium and to meet legal and accounting obligations.
Children
The app and this website are designed for adults preparing for the Life in the UK test and are not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for access to, correction of or deletion of your personal data, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to data portability. Because we don't hold your name or contact details, we may need details such as your device type and approximate date of purchase to find information about you. Email support@rightstack.co.uk to make a request. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Security
All data the app and this website send is encrypted in transit using HTTPS, and our providers apply their own technical and organisational security measures.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app or website changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
